Serco

Leading service provider Serco use technology to reduce the time taken to finalise competitive tenders and bids

Challenge

Videoconferencing is becoming an essential business tool, which is winning business for companies such as Serco Systems, a leading software company. Serco provides software for transport systems and often tenders for large contracts with the Department of Transport. A recent bid with the DoT in Wales specified that its selected contractor must have videoconferencing to carry out regular project update meetings.

Solution

“Having been persuaded of their need to invest in a videoconferencing system, Serco turned to visual communications supplier, Videocall. The installed system has subsequently had significant advantages for other new business opportunities. The IT Manager at Serco says: “Pulling together a bid requires a considerable amount of planning and ties up a lot of time. We often need to call on people from other divisions who have relevant expertise and meetings could be very difficult to plan, particularly when there are tight deadlines to meet.”

Results

He continues: “Videoconferencing has allowed better communication between members of the tendering team and, in many instances, has given Serco the competitive edge in terms of submitting and good quality tenders on time.”
“Senior management and directors often use videoconferencing six hours at a time when pulling a project together and it has proved invaluable for project updates. In the past, co-ordinating everyone’s diaries and travel arrangements could be a logistical nightmare. Now, with less time spent out of the office, senior management is more accessible and meetings are easier to plan.
