3 New Features of Skype for Business that Will Transform your Video Conferences
Microsoft is a company that is revolutionising the future of work. Their stated vision to bring unified communications from the living room to the boardroom was realised earlier this year when they rebranded Microsoft Lync under the name “Microsoft Skype for Business” in 2015 as part of the product’s next release with great success!

Microsoft and Skype for Business’s three new features look set to enhance the user experience and improve overall functionality for its users. The three new services are:
- Skype Meeting Broadcast – handy for big virtual meetings and public webinars, this feature will allow customers to broadcast online video conferences to as many as 10,000 people at once.
- Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) Conferencing – this feature will enable people to join meetings via a web browser or by dialling in with a help of a landline or mobile phone.
- Cloud PBX with PSTN Calling – allows users to make and receive conventional phone calls and handle calls by using hold, resume, forward and transfer features.
These capabilities are aimed at bolstering the existing Skype for Business experience. They will allow companies to replace their phone networks and video conferencing services through either an Office 365 enterprise plan or Skype for Business Plan and broadcast meetings to thousands of people at a go.
Furthermore, it will enable companies to provide a complete, enterprise-grade communications solution as part of their Office 365 cloud products.
In bringing Skype to the business market, Microsoft are catering for the massive rise in mobile communications and the trend for Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD). Video collaboration is rapidly overtaking email as the preferred means of communication in the workplace and more and more employers are required their workers to bring their own devices for work.
